History repeats itself
Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines is running her mouth again. One would think she would have learned last time when her remarks about President Bush during a 2003 concert in London sent the Chicks' career into a nose dive. In the last tree years, there has barely been a peep from the group. Apparently not. Maines and fellow band mates purport not to care what people think and claim they would rather have a small group of loyal diehard fans than fans who also like other country artists. Natalie Maines is certainly entitled to her opinion and should feel free to voice it in whatever formum she desires. One thing that she and other celebrities who spout off need to remember is that this is America and, while they can voice their opinions (of whatever political bend they may be) they need to keep one thing in mind--fans are entitled to their own opinions as well. As the Dixie Chicks learned, alienating your fan base can have pretty drastic consequences for one's career.

so are you saying they should be more concerned with their fan base or their opinions? should they only express opinions which help them garner more popularity? which is more important?
I'm just having trouble seeing what you're saying.
by the way, your brother evidently has a problem getting shit on his hands at work. perhaps you should try to get him some help (see my blog for more details)
Neither really. I just don't like them. I would at least respect them for sticking to their guns if Maines hadn't apologized for the initial remark she made in 2003 after it was obvious her mouth cost them in album and concert ticket sales. Now, three years later on the eve of their new album release, she says she didn't mean her apology. Very transparent.
The solution to not getting shit on your hands at work is simply to not shit at work. I'm pretty picky about where I poop and doing so at work has only happened twice in six years. You never know where someone else's ass has been before it was plopped on that toilet seat.
yes, yes...the travails of dirty-assed co-workers.
my number one campus poop-stoop? library, main floor, on the side facing Regents Hall, just outside the extended hours study room. many thoughts expressed in those stalls, my friend.
My number one pooping spot is George Costanza's handicapped bathroom on the 16th floor of the Play Now office building.
As for the Dixie Chicks, I think what bothers me is that who actually knows what they may or may not believe about Bush/war/politics, etc. They, and many professional artists, actors, singers, what have you, prostitute themselves to what they perceive to be mainstream America in a transparent attempt to sell more albums.

"Attention Play Now employees. George Costanza's handicapped bathroom on the 16th floor is now open to all employees...and their families."
"Well played."
"I'll see you in hell Costanza!"
speaking of losing your fan base...i haven´t read a single word about derek webb on the pentavorite lately...
mocking bird
there's a great article about Webb in last month's "Relevant" magazine. They actually call him "third wheel" to Cliff and Danielle in the early days of the band. It's just good to see someone who has something to say and doesn't really care what people think. Then again, he's still selling t-shirts, right? :)
Yes, there's someone who won't apologize to Bush. I don't think anyone really needs to, Maines included. That's what being a prophet (maybe not Maines--a critic) is all about.
Sorry about the deleted post, the link didnt come through right. If it does it again, just go to CNN and look up the article.
While I agree with Casey that our desire to retain fans and sales should take a back seat to expressing ourselves truthfully, I still couldnt help but post this link:
